Reason 3: troubleshoot technical support issues
When customers report a problem, one of the first things we do is check if the issue is reproducible in our end-user product. If it isn’t, we know for certain that it’s not an issue at our end since our implementation works fine. The reverse is of course not true i.e. if the issue can be reproduced, then it does not necessarily mean it’s a toolkit issue. It could also be a problem with the application. So, although not conclusive, having the ability to test files reported by customers in our own products that are based on the same underlying technology as the customer uses, is very beneficial. If nothing else, it helps us narrow down areas to troubleshoot. Many of our ISV customers also use products like EnSuite at their end to identify bugs, if any, before reporting them to us.
Reason 4: trial by fire
Some of the world’s top CAD/CAM/CAE companies license technology from us. And boy, do we have a demanding customer base, and we are happy for it! But we are well positioned to meet the demands of a world-class ISV customer base. How? By using our own technology in our end-user products that are themselves used by thousands of end-users worldwide! That puts our underlying technology through the paces and on a lot of occasions helps us pre-emptively identify and address issues.
Reason 5: help market our toolkits
In case you didn’t realize, you’re already in on the con? We use our end-user products often to market the underlying technology. It gives our marketing group creative ways to create collaterals to promote our CAD interop toolkits using our products as a basis. It also allows them to open complex looking CAD models in our software and take screen shots to wax eloquent about how great the underlying technology is!
Reason 6: ... ... ...
Actually, “5” has a nice ring to it. So let’s just leave it at that
Hopefully, now you understand that we use what we sell, and sell what we use as much for our own selfish reasons, as also to provide our customers with the best CAD interop technology and products available in the marketplace!
p.s. Some of our end-user products are free. I would recommend you download and use EnSuite-View and Explore 3D and marvel at how great the underlying CAD interop technology is! You knew I had to go there, didn’t you?
